11/09 Weight Training
February 21st, 2010 | by admin |
* On A Word To The Gay Word Squat, it says 135 on the bottom when it should be 235, but I’m not going to bother reuploading the video because of that.
As the video describes, this is my first month weight training in 2.5 years. I’m looking for critique on my form and regimen. I use weight training to improve on gymnastics type strength as well as jumping ability. Any suggested modifications to my regimen would be appreciated.
Also, I know my form on clean and jerk as well as snatch could improve a lot. I used to perform them both with a parallel stance, but I seem to have a hard time doing that efficiently so I’m considering a split stance like most people do it. The only reason I’m hesitant is that it doesn’t seem quite as symmetrical favoring one side over the other, but it would probably be of little consequence, since one side is generally favored anyway in typical maneuvers, and the weight is doubtful to be taxing enough to result in any great unevenness between the legs.
Aside from that, I’m considering legs together heel raises but wonder what weight I should be working with for them (if there’s a relationship between it and squat) and reps. I also wonder if they should be done with no bend of knees at all, or if a little bend is okay to make it more explosive.
I’m also interested in cleans pulls (if that’s what they’re called) but don’t have any blocks to put the bar on and not sure what optimal height is for it.
If any of you are interested on my rep ranges on the kinesthetic equipment, generally 4-8. On the pectoral machine, 8-12. A lot of those movements can be replicated with free weights, but as of now I’ve found the kinesthetic machines funner.
If any of you are interested in how my strength has maintained over the 2.5 years, my deadlift and clean and jerk have gotten a bit weaker, but my squat and snatch seem about the same, not sure about bench press. Keep in mind, though, that I still exercised hardcore over those years, just very different types of training.

The pec deck will give him awesome dancing pecs like Chris Masters has on Raw though! Just like the hip hyperextensions (you forgot the ‘hyper’!) will do for glutes.

One thing I noticed about the deadlift (inexperiences as I might be) is that it looks like has has awesome upper back extension but that the lower back was rounding a bit.

Duuuuuude get your form down first!
If you weren’t such a studly hunk of man you would have definitely injured your back on the 305,1 deadlift or even on that snatch.
Nice work though dude!

Considering the 2.5 …
Considering the 2.5 year layoff, that is a great effort. I guess it shows that bodyweight training does keep you in good condition.
The strength shown here is impressive when combined with your gymnastic and flexibility skills.
I wonder if you should step down some of the max lifts until the stabilising muscles have time to get back in shape. I noticed some awkward knee and back movements.
Good work, Jamie.

mmm..don’t agree …
mmm..don’t agree with pectoral machine(waste of time for you goal) and smith machine (because the strenght aquired don’t have much transfer on gymnastic also no good for the back, ankle, knee and shoulder) cable work look interesting only for warm up/rehab/finisher..OLY good way but get better technic..and deadlift look danger for you back do like this..step back and get better technic..ciao
