Sit-ups and push-ups are meant for strengthening and toning muscle, not burning fat. That would take forever to lose weight with those. Running and swimming are some of the best ways to lose weight. Do A LOT of both and you’ll lose weight.

running long distances is by far is the best way to lose weight. you also have to eat right of course.

running gets rid of fat in the legs, arms (because you move them with your stride) and fat around the waste. it doesnt do al that much for your abs, so do some sit ups on the days you don’t run. try a combination of things, like standard sit ups, leglifts (lay totally flat on the ground and keep your legs straight while lifting them in the air and making a 90 degree angle) or bicycles, etc.

Body weight exercises such as chair lifts, push ups, lunges, squats, there are a miriad of them.
When you do body weight exercises you tone your muscles properly and when you build muscle you lose weight more easily.
Try some of the exercises mentioned in the below sites.

Hill Sprints shed fat real quick and help build muscle at the same time. This is to be done only 2-3 days a week, if you do them everyday you’re looking at a death wish. Start at 40 yards and work your way up. Run up and walk back down. Another program you can do is a push-up program (do as many variations as possible) with this you don’t need to do 100 or more push-ups from one variation but do 15 for one, 20 the next and do 15-20 regulars. Look at that with that alone you just did 55 push-ups from different angles. This is very effective and pull-ups work great to put 2 and 2 together Chest/Back. With ab exercises, wall walking is a great one (about 2-3ft from the wall with your back facing it, bend backwards and walk down the wall as far as you can go). this is a bit scary at first cause its not easy going backwards but with a little consistancy and adding or inch or 2 each workout you will find that you can go all the way down. This works your entire core, your legs, your upper back and if you can go all the way down press up and walk back up the wall. Heres a couple sites that I personally use from its programs and its gotten in great shape in a very short amount of time, let say 6 weeks.
