How can i get a six pack without workout equipment in atleast 2 months?

March 9th, 2010

firstly…lower your body fat % as most people have nice abs naturally just have too much fat covering them – diet or excersise more or a combination, whatever you like to do. At the same time do 50-100 crunches a day building it up, also try the plank and one other excersise (explained next)

1 – lie flat on your back

2 – raise your legs off the floor by 2 inches roughly – hold for 30 seconds
3 – raise by another 2 inches – hold for 30.
4 – continue raising them until you no longer feel the abs burn
**this excersise works out all the different muscles that make up a 6pack and should add to definition**

cheap, effective, small work out equipment?

March 9th, 2010

i have dumbells.
i don’t have a lot of room so i can’t get a treadmil):
buut does anyone know any really good work out equipment
they’ve had success on that’s cheap and small? thanks.

I’d recommend trying Pilates. It’s a really good system for toning up all over, and most of the exercises can be done with limited space (you just need enough space to lie down full length and stretch your arms out either side). You’ll need exercise mat, but if you don’t have one they aren’t expensive, plus a flattish cushion or pillow, and for a few exercises a stretch band (but you can use a tie or belt if you don’t have one).

Best way to get started is by getting a DVD – Pilates for Dummies is pretty good, and Darcy Bussel (the ballerina) did one recently which is supposed to be excellent. Also with the dumbbells, you do so many simple things, but i dont think i can fit it all here so feel free to email and I could just list you easy lifts you can do

How do i incorporate weight training with my cardio training?

March 9th, 2010

I have been using cardio equipment and exercise DVD’s for the past 8 months and have lost a total of 65 pounds. Two months have gone by and i am still doing the same type of workout but have peaked and have only lost 5 pounds in those two months. I have heard that introducing a weight program accelerates the weight loss. I do the cardio and DVD’s 5 days a week for an hour a day. I want to know what is the best way to get started with the weight training and how I should break down the weekly routine. I have bought my own weight set and bench with all of the plates and dumbbells. Any and all serious answers would be appreciated.

Weight training is certainly a good thing to incorporate into your regime to get over a weight loss plateau. I would suggest that you meet with a trainer for a weight program specific to your goals, especially if you haven’t done any weight training. Ideally you should bring the trainer into your home so he/she can see your new equipment. If meeting with a trainer is out of the question, I suggest you read up on proper form before you start. You can do more damage than good if you don’t use the proper technique. Especially if you’re using free weights (i.e. dumbells). The easiest way to start a weight lifting program is to use machines designed to force the proper form (such as Hammerstrength and Nautillus).

Assuming you know the proper form and function based on your new equipment, you should shape your routine around your goals. If weight loss is your primary goal then you’re going to want to incorporate light weights and a high number of repetitions (or "reps"). For example, if you’re doing squats, you should set up a light weight (which varies by sex, fit level and other factors) and do three sets of fifteen to twenty reps. You should feel "weak" but you should not go to the point of muscle failure.

The only other recommendation I have for you is to try pilates or yoga as well. I have a friend who hit a weight loss plateau and then lost an additional 30 lbs by incorporating pilates into her workout. It is very low impact but surprisingly difficult.

Good luck!

How is the easiest way to lose weight without expensive equipment and expensive food?

I’m sure you’ve heard about this amazing fruit called the acai berry with "mystical" weight loss qualities that help you lose weight fast, the natural way.

However, combined with proper diet and exercise, the acai berry can be an excellent weight loss aid. Its natural combination of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, amino acids, phytosterols, and amino acids work together to help your body function better, process food easier, and burn fat more efficiently. Let’s break down how the acai berry helps people reach their perfect weight…

The acai berry contains Omega fatty acids – the same medically recommended fats found in fish oil, olive oil and flaxseed. These fatty acids can’t be produced by the body, and must be obtained from the food we eat. Instead of being stored as fat, they are used by the liver to “kick-start” the metabolism. If you’re a slow starter when it comes to losing weight, or if you’ve reached the frustrating “plateau” phase of weight loss, adding some form of acai to your diet might be just the ticket to get over the hump.

The acai berry contains a generous amount of fiber which promotes a healthy digestive system and helps cleanse your system of fatty foods.

As mentioned above, the acai berry has a generous amount of fiber. High fiber foods like acai help you to feel fuller faster and cut down on nagging cravings, needless snacking, and late night trips to the refrigerator.

Final Word on Acai Berry & Weight Loss

Although it’s not the miracle weight loss solution that some claim, the acai berry has been medically and scientifically proven to contain ingredients that aid in weight loss. Not only does it provide a valuable boost to the metabolism, it also suppresses appetite, helps build muscle, and gives a much-needed shot of energy and stamina for those fat blasting workouts.

What is the best way to use gym equipment? (does anyone know a good site with info?)?

March 9th, 2010

does anyone know a good site with information on how to use some of the basic equipment/machines in the gym ? (maybe photos along explanations to see if they match the ones I would like to work out or have where I go).
I have no intention for paying for a trainer, because I have a friend that already instructed me what structure of exercises to use… however we are not going to the same gym , big distance, so I have to adapt his routine to the new machines…

It would be a breeze if I see a site that instructs what type of muscles each device helps train. It seems silly to pay for the trainer for only this when I could of read it in a book or site in max half an hour.

However thanks for your inputs.

What home fitness exercise machine would you recommend?

March 9th, 2010

I’m looking for a complete body workout, on a budget and with limited space

you can go outside to jog, put your money to use and get some resistance training equipment.. its true, the home gyms are not as good as the equipment available at commercial gyms, but if i had to recommend 1, i would say the bowflex is where its at.. its versatile, offers plenty of resistance, easy to use, durable, doesn’t take up a ton of room, it is a little pricey but i think it is worth it.. go to a home fitness equipment store if you have any in your area, and try the equipment out.. see what you like before committing to anything

If i burn 1500 calories a week just on exercise equipment, how much will i loose?

March 9th, 2010

I burn roughly 1500 a week just using my exercise equipment, my calories intake is 1500 sometimes less per day.
Im at home most of the day as im a stay at home mum, but im always up n about with the children.
So if i burn 1500 just on exercise equipment would i loose the 2 pounds a week? also taking into account all the other calories ill burn doing normal everyday things.
thanks.

You need to burn off 3,600 calories to use up a pound of fat, so 1,500 extra calories would be about 5 ounces! 700 extra calories burnt off a day, which takes best part of an hour, would be 1 pound a week!

I want to burn some stomach fat, what simple cardio (without equipment)plan can help me?

March 9th, 2010

I want to lose at least 20 pounds of fat by Jan 22-Jan 26. I have no equipment except for a schwinn 430 elliptical bike. And if i have to use the bike how many calories should i burn a day to loose 20 pounds by Jan 22-Jan 26?

try to burn 500 calories a day and cut 500 calories from your diet (easiest way to do this is to NOT drink anything with calories in it. If you drink 3 or 4 sodas a day, that is your 500 calories. If you reduce your calories by 500 a day and burn an additional 500 calories a day on the bike, that is 1000 calories a day less then you have been taking in, you will burn off 2 pounds of fat a week. GOOD LUCK!

Is sodium hypochlorite in influents toxic to aerobic bacteria in wastewater treatment? is this acceptable?

March 9th, 2010

sodium hypochlorite (6% concentration) used in the haemodialysis unit of a hospital for cleaning of equipment is actually being discharged into a wastewater treatment plant (5-6 cubic meters per week) consisting of screening, primary sedimentation basin, aerobic tank (this is where i believe that the hypochlorite will affect the treatment process especially the bacteria present, is it possible?), and secondary settling tank. The final effluent is chlorinated before being discharged into a watercourse.

If you want an educated opinion, bleach in any treatment plant creates toxins that are detrimental to bacteria, aerobic or otherwise. The problem comes from concentration. You’ll hear the argument that there is so much water/waste and that the chlorine has disipated that it makes little difference at the plant. Aeration at the plant further releases the chlorine. The problem becomes minimal…depending upon your point of view. There is also an ongoing argument that chlorine mixed with with organic materials results in creating trihalomethanes which are carcinogenic. Its a mixed thing. You’ll often see water downstream from a treatment plant actually cleaner than upstream. Doesn’t mean it will support tons of productive life, but by clean water standards, it is actually cleaner.
