Other cardio exercises to do without gym equipment?

July 26th, 2010 | by admin |

Ive heard that the body does not burn as much fat/calories doing the same exercise repeatedly. I have been doing jogging everyday and have lost weight but now I am not losing and have actually started gaining even though I have not changed diet or routine. Can anyone suggest any good cardio I can do at home or at the park without equipment?? thanks everyone!

If a person sticks to same exercise routine and same healthy diet for a long time, he/she stops losing weight, but doesn’t gain weight. So, you should consult a doctor if you keep gaining weight because that could be due to some hormonal imbalance.

About cardio exercise without gym equipment: The best and most effective one is rope jumping. If you don’t have a jumping rope, you can pretend like holding one and jump moving your hands. Don’t stick to jumping at a place. Combine the following: jump side by side, jump forward & backward, jumping jacks, etc.

You can cycle. Also increase your jogging speed and maybe a further distance on hard ground- like up hills and things like that. You can also buy some exercise dvds and workout at home. That rule about exercising repeatedly isn’t really true. It doesn’t matter what exercise you do as long as your heart rate is up for the same length of time. You may have gained weight due to gaining muscle. I think you must have got the wrong weight

Well instead of jogging you should try running. Which means coming out of the comfort zone. This means you need to run at a pace that’s not comfortable, a pace that you have to fight to maintain and causes hard breathing and sweating. Stepping up your workout will definitely help you lose weight because running is never supposed to stop working. You just have to run harder. As for something else, buy an exercise tape on E-bay, they’re cheap. Look up videos on youtube for exercises. Pushups and sit ups always work well but that’s for toning.

There are many cardio exercises you can do at home, without equipment, such as:

    1. Rope jumping (just get a piece of jump rope and off you go)
    2. Dancing
    3. Walking/running
    4. Swimming
    5. Biking (any bike will do)

To provide more challenges to your muscles and to prevent plateau, alternate your current jogging with perhaps rope jumping or dancing or walking or running.

I think you would like rope jumping as this is one cardio exercise that blasts away tremendous amount of calories in one short session.

I’ve a guide here on how to max out benefits with jumping rope: http://www.perfect-body-toning.com/jump-rope-workout.html

You’re right, your body becomes accustomed to exercises and responds very well to immediate changes in your routine. Best thing is to have a few different things in your arsenal to pull out on a weekly basis.

If you like running, then try researching some HIIT (high intensity interval training – see link) training principles. In 10 minutes you will be exhausted (trust me!) and will have burnt similar calories than when performing a standard 40 min cardio session. Another benefit of this sort of training is that your metabolism will be elevated for longer than the standard ‘golden hour’ post cardio.

Obviously there are many others such as skipping, rowing, boxing and swimming but all require equipment, a leisure centre or a gym :( But the HIIT can be performed in a park, sprint track or on the road.
