How long should you spend on any piece of cardio equipment in the gym?
February 28th, 2010 | by admin |
That will depend on your fitness level and the objective of your workout, as well as the rules and customs at your gym.
When I’m forced indoors (YMCA in my case) by bad weather, a typical workout would go something like this: 2 mile swim, 30 minutes stationary bike, 30 minutes elliptical, 30 minutes indoor track, one circuit of all the weight machines.
There’s nothing magic about the 30 minutes, I just hate working out indoors, and any more than that on one machine is deadly boring.

You shouldn’t spend any more than 45 minutes doing cardio. You can swich machines, if you want, doing about 20 minutes on 2 different machines. I wouldn’t spend less than 20 minutes on any 1 machine.

In our gym, any of the cardio machines are limited to 20 minutes, but I think that’s so others get a chance!

30 minutes is enough on any one piece of equipment but 30 minutes is not a full workout. you should do more than any one type of exercise
